The Delicious Torment
A Story of Submission

Alison Tyler

Alison Tyler has been hailed as the best BDSM fiction writer of today. But wait a minute—is her work really purely fictional? Blurring lines between memoir and meta in The Delicious Torment, Tyler dares to expose in prose that pulsates off the page. Raising all bets that began in the critically acclaimed Dark Secret Love, this coming-of-age story sees Samantha entwined with an older man, a bondage connoisseur and her equal in every way, as she explores the deepest recesses of her master’s desires and her heart.

Story of O meets 9 1/2 WeeksThe Delicious Torment is fueled by lust, longing and need.

“What all of us had hoped Fifty Shades would actually be.”
—Violet Blue

“This tightly written piece of erotica is absolutely fabulous…. The sex is scorching, the characterization divine. This is what erotica is supposed to be. Even if BDSM isn’t your kink, it’s easy to get off on the emotion and the tightly constructed prose. Tyler is a master wordsmith.”
—City Book Review

“Readers tired of sensationalistic portrayals of BDSM will appreciate Tyler’s nuanced and realistic approach.”
Publishers Weekly

“This could be a roadmap for other uninhibited young women, a trip down memory lane for older submissives, and escapist fantasy for the curious among us; any way you read it, this book is a lot of fun.”
—xoxoamore

Hello everyone and welcome to my stop on the Delicious Torment blog tour! When I heard Alison was continuing her series, I was overjoyed. I love a dark, sexy tale and who better to give the grrrrr in growl than Alison?  She rocks it down all the way to my toes–I don’t care what it is she is writing, but this series takes it to a whole new level.  Join me as Alison answers a few questions about her work, some sexy cookie moments and a suggestion for anyone submitting a short story to her anthology calls.

Without further ado…

The Interview:

1. What was your inspiration to write Delicious?
Years ago—and we’re now moving closer to a decade ago—a reader asked me how I got my start in erotica. I responded with a blog post. And then a second one. And, hell, a third. I’ve said this before, but half-a-million words later, I’m still answering the question.
2. The characters in the book are a continuation in a series. How many more books do you envision? A trilogy perhaps?
Well, I’ve definitely envisioned a ménage, because I recently turned in the third (but by no means final) book. Hopefully, I’ll be allowed six. What would I love? Ten.
3. What elements do you look for in good erotic fiction?
Push my buttons right away, from the very first sentence. Tie me up with your words. Hold me down with your phrases. Cuff me with your clever scenario. Then punctuate the fuck out of me, baby.
4. What are some of your pet peeves when you get a submission?
No title. What is up with that? Several stories for my latest call slid in without titles. Can you imagine the Table of Contents?
(Untitled) by so and so
(Untitled) by such and such
(Untitled) by who the fuck cares?
Honestly, even as an art history major, I was annoyed by artists who didn’t title their work. No idea why. But I really feel like things should be given a name.
Other pet peeves? Big blocks of text. No dialogue. Tired tropes. Same landscape I’ve seen before. Old-married couples looking to spice things up. Please.
5. Tell us about some of your new submission calls.
Right this second, I have a call for super-short stories. I won’t waste words. Check it out: http://alisontyler.blogspot.com/2014/01/the-next-big-thing.html
6. Flogger or whip?
Yes, please.
7. Heels or flats?
Stack-heeled, patent-leather Mary Janes. In every color. Motorcycle boots. Granny shoes. Mules.
8. If I was your favorite cookie, what flavor would I be?
Pepperidge Farm Bordeaux. And I would dunk you in chilled white wine. Because I’m trashy like that.
(I believe this is my turn to say yes please!)

9. What is one thing you want readers to get from Delicious?
That love doesn’t fit into a specific definition. That preconceived notions can be left in a glossy puddle on the bathroom floor. What if you loved someone who loved someone else? And rather than that be the end, the three of you looked at the situation as the beginning?
10. What is your steamiest sex scene ever? (And you have lots of them! xox)
Fabulous question. Thank you. Taking the pain for someone else is probably my number-one fantasy. “Take it,” may be the two most erotic words in English to my submissive ears.
In Dark Secret Love (the first novel in my latest series) Sam will not give her safeword and Jack shields her body from a whipping with his own skin. I fucking love that.

Excerpt:
“When we’re finished here, you’ll get dressed. I don’t want to be late.”
“Finished—“ I echoed, feeling the dismal mood slowly draining out of me, replaced bit by bit with a fresh wave of fear.
“You don’t think I’m going to let your behavior today go unnoticed.”
            I hung my head.
“Not rewarded, of course,” he continued. I heard the dark smirk in his voice, yet I knew that had I looked up, his face would be stone.
            “No, Jack.”
He didn’t tell me what to next. He took over, coming forward and placing me roughly against the wall, palms flat to keep myself steady. He worked the buttons on my fly before hauling my jeans and panties down for me, just past my knees. His belt was already off, and he had easy access, was able to grab it up, double the leather, and start without hesitation.
Each stroke felt impossible to bear. I don’t know why or even how the pain can fluctuate—or maybe it’s my ability to take the pain—maybe it’s the mood that matters. But I was in that place, that bratty, mule-headed place, and I lost my head. I tried to turn, to tell him—what? To tell him No? That it wasn’t fair? That I hadn’t done anything specifically to him? I’d been in a funk because of my writing. That was all.
But none of that counted. My mood had bled into Jack’s world. And that’s all that mattered to him. That and the fact that I tried to fight the punishment, which changed the situation in a flash.
He was on me, now, dragging me over to the bed. And I fought him, not wanting to get away—not really. If I had been desperate, I would have acted differently. We both knew that by now. I would have groveled. Begged. Wept. Instead, I tested him, struggling, and he had to work to get cuffs on me, to pin me down the way he wanted, ripping my jeans and panties all the way off and going to work on my ass now, seriously, with the belt, blow after blow, until the struggling subsided and I was….
            What was I?
            I was…. Tamed?
            No. Never tamed.
            Broken?
No, not that either. Jack didn’t want to break me. He liked me wild and spirited.
Fixed. That’s how I felt. Tuned up. Back to normal. As if he had given me a dose of some strong medicine. Jack knew. I don’t know how he knew. He knew because of who he was and who I was. He’d said he’d known me since he’d first seen me at Jody’s party, years before. He’d claimed he understood me way back then. Now, he’d known—in himself, in his heart—that I was craving this sort of treatment. The fighting on my part was merely a last desperate struggle to hang onto a foul mood. Why would I want to do that?
When he was finished, we were both breathless. But I was me again.
Thanks Alison. I needed that…*sigh* Now I’m going back to reading this sexy tale. I just can’t get enough!

Review:

I love a good series I can sink my teeth into and Claimed by the Devil is the beginning of series with magical sex toys, dream worthy Doms and sex scenes with BDSM that will curl your toes. *fans face*. When Devlin crosses paths with Helene after they reconnect after a harsh betrayal. I loved the element of suspense as Devlin has online Dom/sub conversations with Helene and they finally meet. The magical nature of the sex scenes was original and made the story flare with all consuming heat. The community of beings wrapped in spells and workings is positively diabolical and worked so well the the voodoo/magick elements of the story. There is a painful history between these two and there is a very real possibility that their reawakened passion may not be enough to surmount the damage done in the past. Some things are better left alone-will Helene and Devlin heal the wounds that bind them or will the darkness find them first? I love the characters and who wouldn’t love a magical sex toy?

5/5 This series is hot!!

Beltane Witch: A Visit With Siobhan Muir

beltanewitch

Magic, mayhem, and motherhood… a witch’s work is never done, but Sabrina draws the line at the Fae.

After almost two decades as a practicing witch in Cloudburst, Colorado, Sabrina Foxglove is done with men, magic, and the fertility rituals of High Beltane. She’s dealt with all three before and ended up with a young daughter and no partner. Twice. She’s looking forward to a magic-free May Day, with nothing more exciting than making brownies for a kindergarten class and decorating a May Pole. She definitely doesn’t have time for a handsome, Fae-touched man.

After almost two centuries as the human chamberlain to the Fae’s Summer Court, Darius Winterbourne is a man accustomed to getting his way. So when the Summer Queen tasks him with finding a witch to perform the annual rituals and strengthen the ancient warding magicks, he figures it should be easy. He doesn’t expect Sabrina’s hardheaded refusal, her untrained abilities, or his attraction to her. With less than a week to Beltane, he must gain Sabrina’s trust before he loses his home, his position…and his heart.

1. How did you get started writing erotica?
I got started when my husband told me romance was bunk and all the guys had baseball bats for dicks. I looked at him and said, “Let me try to write one you’d read.” He let me and now he loves the romance I write. As for the erotic side of it, he wouldn’t be interested in sweet romance. 😉
2. It is so rare to find an author that writes pagan erotic stories. Tell me a little about what stirs your blood.
Normally I steer clear of witches because I don’t feel like I have enough knowledge to write them accurately (the magic and rituals and all). But this story came out of a dream, complete with characters, motivations, conflicts, and holiday. The muse wouldn’t let me NOT write it down. What really stirs my blood about the pagan celebrations is the connection to the divine. How people can become divine in those moments of devotion and revelation. It’s something I strive for in my daily life because that connection is within all of us.
3. Tell me a little about your book, The Beltane Witch.
The Beltane Witch follows Sabrina Foxglove, a single mom and pagan practitioner who’s been asked to perform the High Beltane rituals to secure the magical energy in Cloudburst. The problem is she doesn’t have time for magic, men, or the Fae, even if the Summer Queen is ordering her to do it. Darius Winterbourne, the Chancellor of the Summer Court has been sent to acquire a witch to perform the rituals and it’s always been easy for him in the past. But Sabrina doesn’t want the honor and kicks him out on his ear. With the Queen breathing down his neck and Sabrina’s stubbornness meeting him head on, Darius is going to have to come up with something quick or he might lose everything. Including his heart.
4. What was the sexiest scene you ever wrote?
The sexiest scene I’ve ever written was in the end of The Beltane Witch when they danced for Beltane. It was wild, erotic, primal and hot. The words and actions flowed straight out of me and it was the first time writing a love scene when I had to stop and fan myself (or tackle my husband) because it affected me as much as the characters.
5. What three things are on your writing desk right now.
Three Monster High dolls – Jinafire Long (dragon), Skelita Calaveras (really cool skeleton), and Rochelle Goyle (gargolye); a microscope, and my Kindle Fire.
6. If I were your most favorite cookie in the world, what would I be?
Lemon Squares
7. What is your most favorite holiday and why?
Thanksgiving – no presents to keep track of or wrapping paper to clean up, but great food and great company, plus screaming at sports on TV. 😀
8. Plotter or pantster?
An odd hybrid of both – I write a general outline with any details I want to remember, then let the muse go and see where the story takes me.
9. What advice do you have for writers when they undertake their first novel length piece?
Don’t worry about the length, but keep the pacing up the whole story long. You have to make it exciting even if the story is more than three chapters. Develop your characters and tie up all the lose ends. Knowing what the goals, motivations, and conflicts (both internal and external) are really help make a longer story interesting.
10. What is next on the writing horizon? Will there be more witchy books to compliment Beltane Witch? (I hope so!)
In terms of what you can read next, there is a short story coming out in a Christmas anthology entitled Happy Holidays from the Crescent Moon Lodge. My story is Christmas ICE Magic and features an Ice Demon. After that is a Menage a SEALs, a military romantic suspense, which should be out in November. The third Cloudburst Colorado tale is coming in 2014 and you’ll see Sabrina Foxglove and Darius Winterbourne briefly in it, as well as learn what’s going on with Sabrina’s friend Moira and her hero, Aiden. There will be magic involved and a really bad guy coming to haunt Moira. Exciting stuff. 🙂
Thanks for being on the blog today! It was wonderful to have you and I can’t wait to read more of the Cloudburst series!

Warehouse Wonder World: A Spicy Interview with the Amazing Jane Brooke

A stunning, waif blond British female is abducted by a mysterious female at the train station in Paris. Thus, in a Paris warehouse she is taken on a sexual journey of unfathomable pain, pathos, humiliation by what appears to be a serial killer, or worse a complete and deranged power provocateur. It is, with the fact in mind that some females need flowers and dinner for sexual fulfillment and others need handcuffs and a crop a story that read to its end is nothing as it seems and in that end is touching to say the least.

http://www.amazon.com/Warehouse-Wonder-Lesbian-Erotica-ebook/dp/B00COS3ZGW/ref=sr_1_3?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1376401177&sr=1-3&keywords=warehouse+wonder+world

1. You mentioned that you began writing erotica when you were pretty young. What started you writing hot and spicy stories?

(YES, at fifteen, and because both of my parents are British brilliant artists, I got parts of both of their brains and quickly they placed me in Savant child programs and with an IQ whirling around 170, they did not drug my talent out of me, I was very lucky to be born to them. I am also a painter. I choose erotica, or more like it, erotica choose me because I felt I would not ever need to deal with censorship since my writing has been described as pornographic gun shots and bullets whizzing past your ear. Like DeSade, I would write with my own blood and feces on-a-wall if chained to a prison cot if that was the only venue that was available to me to write my beloved words.) I write or I die.

2. What kinds of characters do you most enjoy writing about?

(I write hard truth reality and since I do a research tour through the European sex and fetish clubs once a year, as a voyeur, I write what I know and see. Of course those are the lovely and honest people that hold no shame in their minds, nor boundaries as they seek the freedom to express themselves within their most natural sexual desires. I do not write Fabio romance, or about lost princesses and the knights that save them. I love to write a lot about female hit woman as I did in my anthology (British Bonzai Bitches) babes that are fierce, valiant, fucked up by genius brains and always are so problematic. I write about hard, dangerous, amazing, unique, compassionate, sweet and hyper sexual woman and for woman, and to empower women. Fuck, I am a women; well at 22 almost TEE HEE.

3. Tell us about your newest release, Warehouse.

(WAREHOUSE WONDER WORLD) yes, is was a total maniacal romp into the world of a lesbian submissive stunning English female who at the hands of what appears to be a sadistic female serial killer, is abducted at the train station in Paris and then in a Place Monge Paris warehouse, is taken on a psychological and physical sexual journey into the very depth of her sexual sole. As everything I write (I never write rape, or under age sex) WWW in the end is my hope of a total education to my readers that sometimes what they are seeing, is in fact nothing as it seems and I have been told, quite moving and poignant in the end. I actually have witnessed such SCENES at Amsterdam and Berlin SCENE CLUBS.)

4. What are some tips for writers working on their first book length novel?

(Leave home, travel to Amsterdam, smoke hash, (I never do drugs, but at one time I did) never judge, always change, take life risks, experience everything possible considering erotica love, all genders will be just fine, thank you very much and laser your cunt, wear a mini skirt, try girl-girl sex, it’s sooo yummy, KATY PERRY SAID” I Kissed a girl and I liked it, the taste of her Cherry Chap Stick) diet, wear heavy mascara, get you’re hair cut and cow boy up and, then let it RIP and write, write, write what you KNOW, not what you think you know. You want something deep, sexual and meaningful in your life; then don’t be afraid to grab it. You’re unhappy, fuck, do something about it.

VegasJanecover

5. Tell us about your sexiest scene ever…

(That’s a hard one and all of my work is laced with sex and if I had to choose, and because of my bent personality well it would be in Warehouse Wonder World. I love very dark humor in my erotica, and the Dominatrix, the powerful woman has that, a twisted and almost sadistic sense of humor, and I am laughing for as the English blond waif is hanging by her wrists by leather restraints from eyebolts in the ceiling, and being cropped and forced to multiple orgasms, the Dominatrix pinches her cheeks and demands her not to cum again. Now, say to me “You can’t make me cum. DO IT and I will let you go.” Whimpering, the girl trembles the words out of her quivering lips. “I will try.” Then in process with a ball vibrator pressed to her cunt and as the girl says over and over as her tits are cropped “You can’t make me cum” She has an explosive orgasm. The sadistic woman, looking at her with disgust, says. “I thought you said that I couldn’t make you cum?” Hyperventilating, the waif moaned “You tricked me.” Evilly and cynically Mistress smiled and said. “Yes, I did, didn’t I?” Though trapped within what apparently the very nexus of darkness, I always try to give my readers humor, it lightens the novel, and thus we can move deeper and deeper into the pathos of the human mind.

6. Heels or flats? (or just bare feet…naked is good…)

(Never ever, ever flats BIG SMILE they remind me of those gals with dog leashes running around the dog show in Manhattan. Naked, well that is the skin we were born in, and YES, sometimes stilettos, they are so dramatic, but most of my girls, Jane in “Jane, Vegas PI” Kenna Gray in “Love, Sex & Silhouettes” and Adray Venus, my stunning platinum clad skinned Cyborg girl in “CYBORG GIRLS” as well as the savage blonde Mandal in my mostly lesbian hit woman “British Bonzi Bitches” all wear combat boots, because they are kick ass kinda girls. My female leads are all genius savages, go toe to toe with life, and mostly fight and decimate evil men in wars to the death, men that have dismantled and injured either dogs or females BIG SMILE.)

sexslavesandsilhouettescover

7. If you were going to be smothered in food, what would your favorite food be?

It would have to be fruit, blueberries, black berries, straw berries, mangos, papaya, etc, I love fruit, and never shy away slathering it on myself or one of my sweet gay girlfriends. Yes, I warned you, I am savage, one of my most favorite words.

8. What is your biggest pet peeve in erotica?

(OMG, where do I start? Listen, I know I am just a thug with a keyboard, and am no better or worse than any other female on the planet. I dare not judge anyone, for I am so imperfect. But if pressed, I will say why bother to write, unless you can hopefully write something that incinerates the readers ID. Personally, I don’t get all the Fabio, Prince kills the dragon and saves the princess thingy, I mean come on, really, how many times can that story be told. A good example is the (50 Shades) thing, there is nothing realistic in it, if this is heat, passion, madness between two lovers, then I will drink the Kool Aid. Again, I want my readers to see a REAL world of sex, bdsm, bondage, fetish, all gender pathos and sex, not some tepid made for TV world they think is out there, but the world I have seen personally, respect and love. I know, from my reader’s e mails they appreciate my Hard core writing of what really is going out there. Ride hard, give your words the spurs and, then hang on to your dildo for dear life, that’s my motto.)

9. Flogger or whip?

(HA HA HA all of the above and more. I am a huge fan of “Sex Tools Kits” and machine sex, dildos, vibrators, handcuffs, leather restraints, crops, whips, lashes, guns, Caterpillar Tractors, predator drones, anything and everything a female might need to AGAIN fulfill her artistry as she seeks complete and total sexual fulfillment. Remember, it is the MIND that is the sexiest organ in the body, and basically, and I have witnessed most of it, if you can think of it, it will be used as sex implement of pleasure EG: “WAREHOUSE WONDER WORLD.” By the way and since “CYBORG GIRLS” takes place in the year “2101, the futuristic sex with AE computers and machines between humans, Cyborg females and Androids, is nuclear.

savagecover

10. What do you want readers to get from your work?

(Blasphemy, banality, incredulity, mind fucked, heart pounding honesty, jaw dropping reality, (DIRTY THOUGHTS BIG SMILE) beauty, love, Sex and more sex, humor, redemption of the human soul and hopefully their hearts and minds vaporized and, then reborn and hopefully educated of what the possibilities are if one were to step through the door of what happiness await a human being if they dare to seek it.

11. What is next on your writerly horizon?

(HAVE a new 4 book erotica series called the “Hit Woman’s Assassination Hand Book” 1st novel coming from the publisher in two weeks. It’s about Mandal, a Mensa brilliant stunning blond killer, and we follow her life as she runs from a private girl’s school in Montreal at 15 and we pick her life up twelve years later. She’s been a nude dancer, a grifter, whore, habitual liar and then a Contract Killer for a Obese New Jersey Mobster which she (after  basically selling out because she can’t take the heat of life) has become his concubine. She then runs with a million of his cash and thus the hunt for her across the USA by the mobster’s killer crew begins. She breaks down in her old Caddy in a last ditch Texas shit hole called “Inferno Flats”, run by the violent COX clan that run a massive crystal meth empire. Using her incredible beauty, she must lie, grift, cheat, use her astonish IQ and beauty and then kill everyone as she tries to escape with her head still attached to her neck with their money. Except, she falls in love with a horribly burnt ex Green Beret who is a gifted poet and the third Cox brother and has become a reclusive master horse man shaman to the desert Indians. With the NJ crew boring down on her and the illiterate and lethal two Cox brothers wanting to fuck her, she must play out the final grift to the end. Does she get out alive, don’t know, read the book BIG SMILE. This is my absolute fav thing I have ever written though that of course only means something to me.)

One-Handed Reading

I just got home yesterday from a marathon, five-day road trip. Because I was driving an extra car for my folks, I drove alone. Which means I listened to several audio-books.

One was an erotic romance that has gotten a fair amount of buzz lately. I was curious why it stood out so much for readers, so I picked that as one for the trip.

While it was certainly sexy – and definitely turned me on – I finally gave up on it out of boredom. And believe me, when you’re driving for hours on end through the desert of Arizona and New Mexico, it takes a significant amount of disinterest in the story to turn it off.

Of course, this sort of thing is entirely subjective. One woman’s crack is another woman’s meh. But still, I felt like the story didn’t deliver what I wanted. The sex scenes were highly charged and erotic, and yet fell short of fully delivering as I hoped they would. Then there were long stretches between where I felt like the story seriously lagged.

Some readers love a story that makes for good “one-handed reading” – basically inspiration for getting off. Nothing at all wrong with that, but this book clearly aspired to do more than that, by exploring the characters’ lives and feelings. However, those parts of the story lacked the charge of the sex scenes for me. While I love a sexy book, I’ve also been reading “sweeter” romances lately by an author who keeps me fascinated, despite all the door-closing.

Obviously with this book, other readers don’t agree and have loved it. But it’s gotten me wondering – how much story do you all like with your erotica and erotic romances?

Book 2 Facets of Passion

Althea Grant is doing fine. Sure, her Charleston gallery is suffering from the bad economy, and her artistic aspirations have gone nowhere. But she’s happy enough. When rugged metal sculptor Steel rides up on his motorcycle looking to rent studio space, his infusion of cash is more than welcome. But his art is raw, visceral, sexual—and completely inappropriate for her pastel world of watercolor landscapes.

Steel, fascinated by Althea’s rare albino coloring, sees in her the key to his next piece: a metal satyr that can be used for bondage games. Moving into her gallery basement is the first step; seducing the coolly polite lady into modeling for him is the second.

As Steel peels away her careful manners and tasteful outfits, Althea begins to realize her life isn’t just fine at all—it’s as pale and washed-out as the watercolor paintings she’s failing to sell. Can she transform her life and accept her most secret desires?

Kirliss captured her other wrist and held them close in front of her, his warm fingers massaging her skin, while he studied her face. The boat surged over a wave, disturbing her balance. Kirliss’s unusual eyes caught the light, boring into her.

“This is silly,” she tried.

“Do you want me to make you stay?”

“What?” Taylor choked. She couldn’t let him treat her this way. “No! You’ll do no such—”
She lost her breath entirely when he pressed up against her. Thinking he was trying to embrace her, she pulled away and found herself backed against the brass railing.

By the time she gathered her flustered thoughts, her wrists were handcuffed to the rail behind her. Mortified, a bit afraid and—worse—suddenly and wildly aroused…

About the Author:
Jeffe Kennedy took the crooked road to writing, stopping off at neurobiology, religious studies and environmental consulting before her creative writing began appearing in places like Redbook, Puerto del Sol, Wyoming Wildlife, Under the Sun and Aeon. An erotic novella, Petals and Thorns, came out under her pen name of Jennifer Paris in 2010, heralding yet another branch of her path, into erotica and romantic fantasy fiction. Since then, an erotic short, Feeding the Vampire, and another erotic novella, Sapphire, have hit the shelves.

Jeffe lives in Santa Fe, with two Maine coon cats, a border collie, plentiful free-range lizards and frequently serves as a guinea pig for an acupuncturist-in-training. Review:

Jeffe Kennedy knows how to show a girl a good time. Every time I pick up one of her books, I am transported to another place. This time was New Orleans and a whole lot of sexy BDSM action. Sometimes I can get burned out with too many similar themes, but this one was a wonderful coming into ones self kind of story. Dani and Prejean were characters that you can fall in love with again and again.

Dani is in the fashion industry and scrimps on her food to try and remain competitive. Ending up at a restaurant one night, she requests some changes to a dish and the chef comes out to see what kind of loon wants him to make the kind of changes she was asking for. The clash between Dani and the very sexy Prejean is full of sparks. As Dani runs into the sexy chef again, he offers her something she can’t refuse and the story ramps up to full force.

I enjoyed this book very much. Prejean is a thoughtful Dom with more on his mind than a quick spank and tickle. He really takes his time with Dani and helps her blossom. There was a whole lot of sex and a HFN ending that fit the book. I found myself wanting to know much more about this sexy chef and his Cajun background.

Soul Stripper: The Review

Image

By day, Monica is a barista in a local Las Vegas cafe. It doesn’t pay a lot, but it puts her up close and personal with her sexy boss, Drew. Unfortunately, that’s as far as a succubus can go unless she wants to take his soul.

Monica needs mind blowing sex to sustain her, and she finds her victims every night at a local strip club where she’s an exotic dancer. But when her powers begin to diminish and her fellow succubi start turning up dead, all bets are off. Monica realizes she’s the one immortal who has a chance in hell of making things right…

This book was sent to me by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Books about succubi are some of my favorite reads. Monica is a succubus who works two jobs and struggles to keep her balance both in her soul collection and her attraction to her coffee shop boss. He hates that she is a dancer at a club, but has a new bleach blond girlfriend, so Monica has to try and keep her distance. That and if she lets herself taste him, the consequences could be lethal.  Monica was an angel and that has some of her Hellish co-workers a little peeved. She has been a succubus for a long time and only takes her soul-food from those that are on the path of darkness anyway. When someone starts murdering succubi, Monica isn’t sure who is friend or foe and things go South pretty quickly. Great plot twists and some of it I never saw coming. Magic, mayhem and a lot of sexy action abound.

I loved the element in this story about the loss of her powers and what it would mean for a succubus to temporarily become human. The tug of war between Hell and Heaven among angels and demons where Monica was concerned made the book a page turner.

Going into this book, I wasn’t sure if it was going to be like other succubus books I have read in the past, but no. Soul Stripper held its own and I have a feeling there are some interesting things about to happen in the second book as Monica begins to loose her Heavenly dedication to only taking a sip of souls destined for the dark side. Innocence is about to be on the menu and it is going to be a bumpy ride.

4/5 for a fun read with a character I grew to really like. Can’t wait for book 2!
